Do You Have Sensitive Skin?

Sensitive skin types often have the most challenges when it comes to keeping their skin happy and healthy. While the rest of us are able to go about our daily lives without much thought, sensitive skin types know that they have a score of decisions to make, including what skin care products to use on their skin, what fabrics to choose for clothing and bedding, and even what type of laundry detergent to use. However, no matter how careful you are, there may still be times when you’ll have to soothe your upset skin. Luckily, there are ways to go about this.

The surprising thing about sensitive skin is that while there are sensitive skin types, just about any skin type can have a reaction that can render their complexion “sensitive.” Many times it is difficult to pinpoint what is responsible for causing red, inflamed, upset skin. Sometimes the skin can become sensitive without reason, often cropping up on complexions that otherwise never had any skin issues. To make matters worse, most people that experience upset skin often turn to special skincare products as a solution, despite the fact that the use of certain skincare products may have been the cause of the problem in the first place.

If you’re experiencing sensitive skin or are already dealing with a sensitive skin type, it is important to avoid looking for quick fixes - namely products that you purchase at your department store beauty counter. Instead of spending money on yet another item that may add onto the problem, go back to the skincare basics. Simplify your daily skincare routine with a mild cleanser and facial moisturizer that contains SPF. At this time using toner may only aggravate your skin so skip it until your complexion is back to normal. See if this basic approach to your skincare regimen is enough to soothe your skin back to its regular state. This may take a few weeks for any noticeable change to occur. When you’ve got the green light from you skin, then slowly start adding back in your other skincare products. Additionally, it doesn’t hurt to trade in your skincare products for gentler versions. Look for items that contain natural ingredients and are fragrance-free, these are better for your skin.

It’s also helpful to avoid using scrubs on your face during this time. Gently cleansing such as a milk based cleanser and moisturizing should be more than enough to keep your complexion glowing. When choosing natural skincare products, be sure to purchase items that have ingredients that contain soothing agents and anti-inflammatory properties. Great examples include lavender, rose, chamomile, and blueberry. If you want to reintroduce toner into your routine, opt for a more natural approach through the use of witch hazel.

Votre Vu offers an Organic line for sensitive skin called Attentive.
