Moisturizers ~ Know Your Skin Type

There are more types of moisturizers on the market today than anyone can count but the most important way to find out which type of moisturizer is good for you is to know your skin type. Using a moisturizer that isn’t suited for your skin can lead to negative reactions and skin irritations. If you find yourself confused about which one to choose, you’ll want to learn what to look for on the label and which ingredients and formulas work best for each common skin type.

Never blindly try a skincare product without checking it out first. Many moisturizers come in different forms for each skin type so if you get a positive referral about a moisturizer on the market, do your research and see if there is a version of it that is formulated specifically for your skin type. If not, you’ll probably want to skip it.

Normal skin is one of the most convenient to have because this skin type can pretty much use any type of moisturizer with no problems so if this describes you, then you won’t have much to worry about when choosing a moisturizer.

Dry skin types have the inability to produce the right amount of oils, making the skin excessive dry, tight, and uncomfortable. In this case, you’ll want to look for a moisturizer that is formulated for dry skin and is oil-based. Look for naturally moisturizing ingredients such as aloe vera, seaweed, and honey.

Oily skin types have a problem with controlling oil production. Those with this skin type need a moisturizer that is water-based and oil-free. This type of skincare product is able to keep the skin moisturized without triggering more oil. Be careful not to “assume” you have oily skin merely because of your “T-Zone” which can be oily due to your skin being too dry. Your skin type should be based on your cheek area.

Sensitive skin have the toughest time finding skin care products because they almost always have a negative skin reaction. To avoid this, look for a moisturizer that is formulated for sensitive skin types. Often the product will state that it is gentle on the skin. Also look for the words “hypoallergenic” and “fragrance free.”

Natural and organically formulated moisturizers are best.
